What is an IP address?

IP address - Internet Protocol address – is a 32-bit number (4 numbers separated by dots/periods e.g. 000.000.000.000), that identifies each computer (or device) connected to the net by TCP/IP protocol in a unique way. IP address allows to: • Identify the device connected to the network in a unique way • Ensure a way to get to the device IP address can be dynamic – assigned by DHCP server (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) in LAN network, or static – such IP address does not change in time.
